EPL GW 35 & FA Cup Weekend Review || Napoli Close the Gap

What a finish to this weekend’s football action ! Yes we had less number of EPL games this weekend because of the FA cup Semi Finals.

EPL GW 35 Review

West Brom Vs Liverpool-

Being a Liverpool fan, I was not happy with the way Liverpool conceded two goals in the end. We knew that champions league semi final on the horizon caused Klopp to make so many changes.

They had 3 changes in the back and that quite tells you the outcome of this match. Special credit goes to Danny Ings for a scoring goal after ages. He looked as if he was going to score and that’s a positive sign for him.

Once again Mo Salah showed why he was chosen as PFA player of the year 2018. He scored that brilliant chip again as he did against Man City inย  the second leg.

Klopp made few excuses regarding dry pitch and Hegazi foul, but having said all of that Liverpool squandered two goal lead which should have been avoided. Moreno and Gomez were the culprits in defense.

Anyway that should ring a bell to all the players to get back to their best to prepare against Roma at Anfield. Robertson,Trent,Lovren and VVD will be defending that night so it will make a huge difference.

Watford vs Crystal Palace –

This game was unwatchable to say the truth. There were almost no shots on target, nobody looked threatening to cause any damage.

Funny thing is that this game produced more yellow (8) cards than shots on target (5).

Palace played safely for a point just to be safe and they are likely to survive as they will be facing bottom two teams in three of their last games.ย

Arsenal vs West Ham –

Merci Arsene ! We thought in the first half Arsenal played exactly the same way they have been playing all season.

Second half – they did brilliantly well to get those goals. Stand out players were Welback,Ramsey and Lacazette with their inter link play and end product.ย

We hope that they will produce the same against Atletico Madrid in semi finals of Europa League.

Stoke Vs Burnley –ย

Stoke in desperate need of points started game very well by scoring in 11th min courtesy to Ndiaye. If Stoke had better finisher than Diouf then there season would have been different as he missed another great chance to score a goal.

Who was impressive ? Gudmundsson. Yes he has been so impressive this season with his set pieces, passes and long-range shots. Burnley could have scored more goals but Butland was amazing between the sticks.

In the end it was a stalemate 1-1.

Man City vs Swansea –

Do we really to talk about how Man City dominated this game ? It was one way traffic and Swansea team was close spectator of this match.

City made astonishing 1000+ passes in this game alone to break the record. Though that stat never matters.

David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Sterling, Jesus and B. Silva everyone put their name on the score sheet.

Impressive player for me was David Silva again. What a player he is ! He just knows how to slide the ball into little pockets with accuracy. Everyone can say ‘what’s the big deal ?’, but weight of the pass makes him so special player.

If we had statistics like number of times weight of the pass was successful then David Silva would be miles ahead of everyone. Opta please make a note of this statistics and try to work on that ๐Ÿ™‚

We must mention Foden. He showed glimpses of his future in the last quarter and let me tell you he is going to be a Superstar. He is only 17 I guess, that’s frightening.

City celebrated their title-winning campaign in style by thrashing Swansea at Etihad.

FA CUP Semi Final review

Manchester United Vs Tottenham –

Tottenham bottled it again by losing in semi final against Manchester United in FA Cup. Credit must go to Man United the way they played that game after conceding an early goal.

Once again Pogba and Sanchez proved that why they are big game players. Nobody thought Dembele could be out muscled but Pogba did just that to provide great assist to Alexis.

Chelsea Vs Southampton –

As expected Chelsea got the job done as Giroud continued his great form. He showed why he can be a starting XI player ahead of Morata.

Though Morata scored to secure birth in the FA Cup final but Southampton never looked like winning this match. Now Burnley can hope to play in Europa League ๐Ÿ™‚

Napoli Close the Gap –

Well many pundits wrote Napoli off before this game. Napoli showed Juventus that they wanted this game more than them. Juventus had zero shots on target and in the end Napoli snatched the win.

As a neutral spectator the game was not entertaining, because teams had different mindsets going into the game given the situation in the points table.

Well it will go down to the wire because Juve has tough run in from now on, as they will facing Inter and Roma in their last four matches.

PFA PL team of the year 2018 || Some Players missing ?

We have PFA premier league team of the year. It’s a great team but the question is “are there players missing from it ? “. Well we certainly think so.

First of all let’s look at the PFA PL team of the year

pfa team

Many of us thought that we have a case for certain players. Before going to discuss that let’s just keep in mind that this team is based on the player’s vote and players can not vote for their team mates.

Every player can not watch all the games and so it is very difficult to judge them which player played better throughout the season based on that. Pundits and analysts can provide better options to come up with a better team.

Let’s analyse position wise then.

De Gea –

No doubt about that. He has been brilliant this season with his reaction saves because they are not just close to his body but on multiple occasions he had to stretch as well.

Highlight saves for me one against Liverpool at Anfield with his leg and one against Aguero in Derby at Ethihad. Many people say that Ederson might have a case here but he has made lots of mistakes too as they are prone to, given the way Man City plays.

Vertonghen –

Again the best CB this season, We have seen him holding the ball really well even when he is under pressure from attackers. We do not need to explain much further as he deserves this spot.

Otamendi –

He is good from set pieces and stuff like that, but when it comes to his defensive abilities then it raises questions. Man city were less worried about defense as they were having most of the possession in the attacking area. When he had to defend he did not look that convincing. He made too many mistakes, panic passes that led to opposition scoring goals.

Tarkowski could have been better option as he has been solid for Burnley this season. He also debuted for England international team because of his performances. He is better at making clearances and blocks.

Walker-

Well his name is Walker but we are sure that he does not walk on the pitch. He is so swift, agile and can run in behind defense in no time. He had a great first season with Man city and played a crucial role down the right hand side. No issue with his selection.

Alonso-

This man is my favorite pick in the fantasy premier league team but I have doubts over his inclusion in the PFA PL TOTY. Yes he scored most goals as a defender but if you see him play then you will realize how further he plays up the pitch. Of course he is the great free kick taker so he gets his goals.

But Robertson and Young have been great for their teams as well. If Robertson had played since start of the season then he could have been there.

De Bruyne and David Silva-

No-Brainer ! Really two masters of the game and pivotal to Man city’s premier league success this season.

Salah and Kane –

Again No-brainer ! Both have scored 55 goals between them. Salah has been so much influential because he scored in 20 odd different matches as Kane scores Braces and Hat Tricks. Having said all of that they both deserves the place in that team.

Eriksen and Kun Aguero –

We know they both have been great players and we do not have doubts on that, but we have the case for Sane, Sterling, Firmino, and Fernandinho.

First of many stats will fail to understand the impact of Firmino on Salah’s incredible record this season. He works unselfishly for his team mates by defending, creating spaces, holding the ball.

Fernandinho is so much under rated because of De Bruyne and Silva. He has been solid at that defensive midfield position. He has linked up play from back to front pretty well andย  he should have been there in place of Eriksen but it is what it is.

Sane had a great season under Pep as no one would have thought that he will become a world-class player and his penetrating runs on the left side gave defense a major headache this season. He is behind only Kevin De Bruyne in terms of assists with 12.

Sterling was instrumental in terms of scoring goals for Man City this season. He missed many big chances that made us think that he has composure issue in big games, but time is on his side and he will improve if he finds himself in those situations time and again.

Well anyway we could have included Sane, Sterling, Robertson, Tarkowski and Fernandinho in that team. As players who voted did not care about formation and balance of the side much ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s safe to say Manchester City dominated this team and rightly so.
