Manchester City Wins Title || Weekend Premier League Review

First of all congratulations to Manchester City on winning the Premier League title. Deservedly so they were by far the best team in England throughout the whole season.

What Pep did this season in the league is really amazing. We will look at major points as follows

Case in point is Leroy Sane who really had a great season not just in terms of scoring goals and providing assists but he developed as a player so much that nobody expected that much out of him at the start of the season. His attributes are pace and dribbling inside the box with 3-4 defenders around him. This creates space for other players to exploit the situation.

Rahim sterling had a great season in terms of scoring goals. He was in right positions at the right time. This trait he learnt from Pep during this season as Pep demands three things from his players are Position,Possession and Play.

Only thing he has to take care of is missing big chances in important situations. As we saw him squandering chances against United and Spurs.

KDB and Silva as always were the best two City Players this season in terms creating chances and providing key passes with grace and style. The  diagonal grounded through ball pass which Kevin De Bruyne provided to Sane to score a goal against Stoke this season was one of the best pass I have ever seen.

Other top players such Kun Aguero, underrated Fernandinho had their moments in crucial situations as well.

Building Play from the back-

Pep believed in his philosophy even when back three found themselves in tight situations and they continued to build the attack from back.

Passing between the lines and breaking defense with shear pace and quality of attacking flair that they have got. Yes it was difficult given he was not able to do that effectively in his first season at City.

Over the period of time they acquired that skill, but in some matches it did not work as Liverpool pressed them higher up the pitch in league game at Anfield with great intensity and they made horrible defensive mistakes to concede goals. United also managed to break them down at Etihad because they lost aerial duels.

Next Season’s challenge-

Yes they were unstoppable this season but every team saw how they can approach against city. May be from the next season opponents will start pressing them with high intensity and will try to exploit them tactically with a better plan.

Same goes for city also, they will strengthen their squad too and it will make hell lot of exciting to see who wins premier league if top players and managers come in the summer.

EPL Weekend Review-

Weekend started with a thriller at St Mary’s stadium when Chelsea came back against Southampton to seal 2-3 victory against Saints.

Burnley impressed again and continued their fine form. They won their last five games and four of them were 2-1 victories that shows their grit and determination to win games. Sean Dyche is impressed us all given their team’s budget and talent. They are on course set to play in European competition after more than 50 years.

Crystal Palace were impressive with Zaha scoring two goals first time in the premier league and help them to win the game 3-2. I was persoanlly happy as he was in my fantasy team as a differential pick.  (You can check out my fantasy team here – My FPL Team  )

Huddersfield managed to pull off that magic moment to win the game against Watford 1-0. Swansea and Everton produced a stalemate which ended in 1-1.

Liverpool and City won their games quite comfortably against Bournemouth and Spurs respectively. Mane, Salah and Firmino were all on the score sheet, they have scored 81 goals in all competitions for Liverpool till now.

City should have finished the game earlier as Sterling missed big chances and Spurs were not that great on the weekend. We expected to press them higher up the pitch and City players had too much time on the ball.

Newcastle produced a fine performance against Arsenal and that pretty much sums up Arsenal’s season. They are banking on Europa league looks like, as they rested their key players for this match. Arsenal won just 3 games away from home and it is not good enough for a club like Arsenal.

Weekend ended with a shocker from West Brom against Manchester United and they managed to hold on to their 1 goal lead provided from Rodriguez.

Mourinho was right in his post match interview as he said that everyone thought it is so easy against West Brom and they were taking too many touches and showing tricks when it was not necessary. They had to be more direct and should have passed first time to finish off West Brom.

Main thing everyone should remember that City won the title because they had an amazing season not because Manchester United lost to West Brom. It was delayed till this game only though. Though I support Liverpool but I have a huge respect for Mourinho too.

Off Topic-

Some times you have to think about the match situations and season logically then come up with your opinion. I think people sometimes go overboard against players, managers and teams to troll over the internet. They do not take all the factors into consideration while coming up with delusional responses.

Anyways I am not against trolling. It’s fun to watch sometimes if the mood is light and if it’s in good taste. If trolling someone by disrespecting and bringing out illogical points makes me sad.

We will talk about it more later in future, but right now stay tuned in for more upcoming blogs and discussions as we know there are still EPL games we have over this week.

Till then enjoy this beautiful game and share my blogs 🙂

Champions League Review || Expect the unexpected

I had a feeling that something special is going to happen during this champions league quarter-final second leg round. I was expecting comeback from Sevilla but boy did Roma proved me wrong.

Roma Vs Barca –

What a night they had in Rome. “Rome was not built in a day” ! Tremendous result in heir campaign. We knew that Barca were pragmatic this season and were getting the results but Roma fully deserved that victory over them.

Messi and Suarez were not effective. On the other hand Edin Dzeko was superb. He just fought for his life and brought Roma back in the game and Manolas to finish it off.

Allison was not tested the way he should have been. To sum things up it was the “Perfect Game” for Roma. Karma is a bitch ! What goes around that comes around for Barca as they did last season to PSG.

ManCity Vs Liverpool –

As we expected City started the game with barrage of attacks and they got a dream start with a goal within just 2 min. Although there was a case of foul on Van Dijk but VVD should have cleared that away.

Though I support Liverpool but Man City should have got that second goal by Sane. It  could have shifted the momentum of the game. Having said that Liverpool came back in the second half very well as Mo Salah finished it off. Cool as a cucumber. He did it again for Liverpool.

Firmino just rubbed salt in the wounds of Mancity players later with great pressing by him against Otamendi and netting past his compatriot. City should have started with Kun Aguero and Kompany in this big game but in hindsight we can always say that. Over the two legs Liverpool did well to knock them off.

Real Madrid Vs Juventus –

Given the lead of 3 goals everybody thought it is very unlikely that Madrid would squander this one. As we saw great fight back from Juve but it’s fair to say that Real did not defend that well for 2 Mandžukić’s goal and K.Navas committed a blunder to help Matuidi to score a simple goal.

Dybala’s ommision turned out blessing in disguise as Mario came back in starting XI and even commentator said before the game that his aerial ability might cause damage. Credit must be given to amazing crosses that he received from Khedira and D.Costa, but Boy! that was a great header.

Real came back in the last-minute and guess who ? Yes it’s Cristiano Ronaldo. As he always delivers in the champions league and specially in later stages. The leap that he got to place the ball into the path of Lucas Vazquez was amazing. Many fans thought that it was a wrong decision and ref also made a bad call sending Buffon off.

If you see replay and think rationally it was clear that Bentia pushed him from the back and obstruct by placing foot ahead of his chest. It shows that it was a penalty. Credit must be given to ref Michael Oliver having made that great decision in such a huge game. Reaction of Buffon every football fan can understand because we do love him, but at the end of the day this game is above everyone no matter what your status is and if you are bumping into referee aggressively then it’s hard to argue against.

Bayern vs Sevilla –

I expected Bayern to score few goals but they did not. I was hoping Sevilla to cause an upset. Game was boring and both did not create enough chances. It was about getting in to the semi final for Bayern. It’s not their fault that they had weaker opposition.

They were able to rest few players and as they have sealed league title they can focus on champions league better than other teams.

What a crazy week of football this was !!

We will come back again with the reaction from champions league semi final draw that is going to happen on Friday 4pm IST. Till then keep following this space false9analysis.com.

Can Pep do it ? || Champions League quarter final leg 2 preview

So it’s been some week for all football fans around the world. We witnessed City’s defensive weakness against Liverpool and Manchester United. Can Pep do it ?

Having said that it’s not over until it’s over. Manchester City have enough attacking potential to exploit any defense. If anyone can, Pep can ?

Let’s go back to early season encounter between these two. City scored 5 goals past Liverpool.City is as lethal as they were at the start but for Liverpool many things have changed.

  1. Defense – with big Virgil they have got the solidity and composure. Plus it’s helping Karius in a big way. Robertson is machine on that left side offensively and defensively too
  2. Midfield – Ox’s addition to midfield has brought some creativity though we know Coutinho’s loss is huge.
  3. Atmosphere – As I said in my previous blog that Liverpool fans create some magical atmosphere that gives players extra push to get the best out of them on a European night.

It’s about getting it right to go through semis.

Big miss for Liverpool will be Henderson with his leadership ability because in big games that’s the important thing. For Liverpool some body have to step up to fill in his shoes. Who’s better than Milner ?

City would be happy with Kun Aguero coming in to the squad. He has been brilliant for them since he arrived and world-class striker to speak. Pep failed tactically in first leg so he would definitely start Sterling tonight.

If City scores early then it might create doubt in minds of LFC players. If Liverpool scores early then City might collapse because they will have to score 5 past Liverpool and then it will open up nicely for Liverpool’s attacking trio as City will try to attack heavily and may commit mistakes.

I do not want get ahead of myself and predict because some games you can not predict. That’s the beauty of it and I am going to enjoy every second of this mouth-watering clash.

Safe to say other big guns such as Barca, Real and Bayern Muchen will be safely go through semis as they have got great results. I personally think that if Sevilla can cause upset it would be a quite story.

I hope we will see scintillating stuff in this second leg, but the question is Can Pep do it ?

Manchester United spoils City Party || Stalemate at Mersyside || EPL Saturday Review

Well Well Well ! Just when you thought EPL was sealed tonight Pogba had different plans. That was some game at Etihad. Anti Climatic it was ! Manchester United Spoils City’s Party.

I would have written about it tomorrow but it is better time to express just when the game ended.

Liverpool and Manchester United scored 3 each against City within a week and it will hurt Man City fans a lot. As they have been dominant force throughout this campaign.

Raises a question why EPL teams did not do it against City ?

But it raises a question. why no one really pressed city since season began ? May be if someone had attacked them the way Liverpool and Man United did this week, then other teams would have played against them that way. Every team was so bothered about their possession and attacking flair. No team ever got going against City.

Having said all that it does not take credit away from City’s stellar season, but it poses a question that every team who were beaten by City was mentally on the back foot given the reputation that they earned over the course of this season.

I hope this two results that City got against top sides shows that in next season City will be challenged by teams such as Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea (if they change their manager). Guardiola has to change his system and tactics accordingly to deal with it because Man City are not Gaurdiola’s Barca as this City team gives away ball high up the pitch if  they get pressed heavily.

Still there is no denying that they are a week away from the title.

Mersyside Derby that didn’t really matter ? || Stoke fought but falter

Earlier this game week we saw Mersyside Derby and though I am a Liverpool fan still was not impressed with the game and I understood that we rested our top players for second leg against city.

Everton could have snicked one right in the end and could have earned bragging rights but as expected it ended 0-0 draw.

Other matches included great win by Newcastle as Rafa is keeping them in safe zone.Stoke fought hard but they were undone by Eriksen and Harry Kane’s shoulder as proclaimed by him.

Manchester City Vs Manchester United || Everton vs Liverpool || Starting XI Dilemma ?

What was that ? Boom ! Yes. Exactly that was my reaction when Liverpool thrashed City by 3 goals and more importantly with clean sheet. Weekend just getting better as we are awaiting to witness Manchester Derby at Etihad.

A night I won’t forget as I watched the best atmosphere that Liverpool played in recent times. Some one might argue that Dortmund game was quite amazing but given the daunting opposition this made more special.

Because of this first leg result this weekend’s derby clashes are unpredictable as ManCity and Liverpool might rest their players to go through in semis of champions league.

Let’s Analyse then

1. Manchester Derby

What an occasion for Manchester City to win the game and Premier league at this stage. Their fans would never have ever thought of this even in their wildest of dreams. Other side of the coin is that City have already won premier league to say and if they falter against Liverpool then in long-term that would hurt them more.

Had they got an away goal then things would have been different at Etihad in second leg. From Manchester United’s point of view there’s one thing they want and it is to avoid City winning at Etihad and there are no second thoughts about it.

As we have seen throughout the season what Mourinho can do stop City’s lethal attack. Even when he knows pressing high up the pitch might break city down as Liverpool showed every one twice this season. But Mourinho won’t be changing his style then it would be a shock to me than beating City.

Pep faces starting XI dilemma for this Manchester derby more than any one. He always likes to go full throttle when it matters. But I won’t be surprised if he rests players Kevin De Bryune , David Silva or Sane. He might put enough quality players to get the result. This one is very tough to call but I guess it will be a narrow win for City in the end as they need impetus going forward in the second leg.

2. Mersy side Derby-

This is  the first time Liverpool fans would not be worried about losing to Everton in the history of premier league. As every one is so focused on getting right result in second leg against City. But truth is that Everton these days are not a great team as they have very limited quality players at their disposal.

Yes on their day they can hurt any one as they thrashed City last season at Home 4-0. But Jurgen Klopp will put a team to beat them as at the end of the day it is Mersyside Derby and every fan wants their bragging rights in town.

We know Mo Salah got injury and Klopp did not provide much information on his injury before the game as he said in press conference on 6th April 2018. He wants to wait till final moment before team sheet gets to the officials.

Even Liverpool might rest players such as Mo Salah, Van Dijk and Robertson still they can beat Everton. If they make 4-5 changes to them previous starting XI then it might be  cagey affair.

So both Pep and Klopp have dilemma but we are sure of exciting attacking football from both sides and will certainly enjoy this weekend’s EPL games.

Let’s see which derby produces exciting clash. is it Manchester Derby or Mersyside Derby ?
